Phantom of the Opera (2004)
It’s the longest-running broadway and musical show, and now the Phantom of the Opera is coming to the UAE. Andrew Lloyd Webber’s haunting romance, which opened at Her Majesty’s Theatre in London’s West End over three decades ago, is set to make its Middle East debut at the Dubai Opera in Fall 2019— However, theater buffs can register for the pre-sale today on Dubaiopera.com ahead of the ticket release.
The musical production is based on a novel by French journalist Gaston Leroux and tells the story of a disfigured composer named Erik, who lives beneath the Paris Opéra House and becomes obsessed with a young composer whom he kidnaps.
Featuring 130 cast, crew, and orchestra members, scene-stealing scenery, more than 230 costumes by the late international designer late Maria Björnson, 250 kg of dry ice, 10 fog and smoke machines, and jaw-dropping special effects — The Phantom’s makeup, which comprises prosthetics, wigs, and contact lenses, takes two hours to put on and 30 minutes to take off — the show is not one to miss.
The production is the longest running broadway show in history, having been watched by 140 million people in over 30 countries around the world. It has garnered multiple awards, including seven Tony Awards on Broadway and four Olivier Awards in the West End. The Phantom of the Opera became the longest-running show in Broadway history in 2006 when it celebrated its 7,486th performance, surpassing the previous record holder CATS.

Echoing on her statement, Chief Executive at Dubai Opera, Jasper Hope adds “Dubai Opera audiences will love the original London production of this brilliant story of romance and intrigue with its breathtaking special effects, set to Andrew Lloyd Webber’s hauntingly beautiful score, when it arrives for a very limited run next Autumn.”
