A date for the 96th Academy Awards, as well as other key awards-season events, has been revealed.

Hollywood may have barely moved on from the Everything Everywhere All at Once sweep that ruled the 2023 Oscars, but the show must—and will—go on. On Monday, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the date for the 96th Academy Awards, which will take place on Sunday, March 10, 2024.
That date aligns with Oscars past, just two days earlier than this year’s March 12 telecast and two weeks earlier than 2022’s March 27 ceremony. The telecast, which has yet to announce a host, will air live on ABC from the Dolby Theatre. Also unveiled were dates for various key awards-season events, from the Governors Awards, which present honorary Oscars, to the Oscar Nominees Luncheon, where honorees including Tom Cruise and Steven Spielberg can discuss the state of theatrical releases before enjoying a meal at the Beverly Hilton.
Although Emmy season is in full swing, with TV’s creatives angling to be anointed the best and brightest, possible 2024 Oscar contenders have been floated here at Vanity Fair and beyond. With new releases from auteur filmmakers including Bradley Cooper, Martin Scorsese, Steve McQueen, Greta Gerwig, and Christopher Nolan, buzz in all of the key races is already getting generated.
Little is known about how next year’s telecast will differ from the 2023 awards, although the Academy’s board made its first big change earlier this month with the creation of the Production and Technology Branch, the first new organizational branch since 2013, when the Casting Directors Branch was initiated. Made up of about 400 members, the new branch includes chief technology officers, senior department heads in technology and creative services, and preservation and restoration specialists, along with those with production roles such as stunt coordinators, script supervisors, choreographers, and line producers.
