After a slew of cryptic teasers and cameo hints, Netflix has finally unveiled the first full trailer for Stranger Things 4 — and to say we are in for a wild ride would be the understatement of the year.
On April 11, the streaming giant used the show’s social media channels to announce the long-awaited trailer for Season 4 of Stranger Things. Shortly after the announcement was posted, a trailer drop countdown was uploaded to the Stranger Things official YouTube channel. Set to an eerie soundtrack, the live video literally counted down the hours until the trailer was unveiled by monitoring a vintage grandfather clock placed on a busy street, covered in vines from the Upside Down.
When the countdown reached zero, the trailer arrived, and with it, so many questions. The trailer opens up with the chaos and destruction left after the closing of the gate in Stranger Things 3. We then see the same grandfather clock featured in the countdown video in an abandoned room, right before the eyes of a terrifying figure (giving half-zombie, half-demon) appear on the screen.
“You’ve broken everything. Your suffering is almost at an end,” an even more terrifying voice says off-screen.
Back in the “real” world, we see Sadie Sink’s character Max mourning her stepbrother Billy as we get other glimpses of life in Hawkins before things turn, well… messy and frightening and very supernatural.
Before the release of the full trailer on April 12, Netflix had also dropped a ST4 teaser trailer that showed Eleven trying to fit in at school in late 2021.
Netflix first confirmed Stranger Things had been renewed for a fourth season in 2019. After COVID-related delays, we finally got our first look at Stranger Things Season 4 in May 2021 when Netflix released the two very first teaser clips for the series’ forthcoming season. We also learned that Stranger Things had added a bunch of new characters to its cast and even got a taste of the action-to-come when Millie Bobby Brown was spotted filming a scene on set.
Just this February, the streamer also revealed four official posters for the upcoming fourth season featuring four key locations: Russia, The Lab, Creel House, and California. With the posters, it was also announced that Stranger Things 4 would be divided into two volumes, premiering on May 27 and July 1, respectively, and that Season 5 would culminate the project.
