Naomi Osaka is expecting her first child with partner Cordae.
The tennis player shared a photograph of her sonogram on Twitter and Instagram today, writing, “Can’t wait to get back on the court but here’s a little life update for 2023.”
The sonogram was followed by a longer statement, presented via a screenshot of her iPhone Notes app. “The past few years have been interesting to say the least, but I find that it’s the most challenging times in life that may be the most fun. These few months away from the sport has really given me a new love and appreciation for the game I’ve dedicated my life to,” she wrote. “I know that I have so much to look forward to in the future, one thing I’m looking forward to is for my kid to watch one of my matches and tell someone, ‘that’s my mom.’”
2023, she continued, would be year “full of lessons for me.” Four days ago, Osaka withdrew from the Australian Open, but she stated in her social media posts today that she hopes to return to the tournament in 2024.
Osaka and Cordae have been together since 2019, with the musician often supporting her in the stands during high-profile matches. In 2021, they attended the Met Gala together, an event Osaka co-chaired.
