This Is The Moment When Nadine Labaki Learned of Capharnaüm‘s Oscar Nomination

Nadine Labaki‘s Capharnaüm is continually crossing milestones and reaching new heights as a platform for the underprivileged voices to be heard. Besides being nominated at the BAFTA and the Golden Globes, the thought-provoking film bagged the Jury Prize at the Cannes Film Festival and is now in the Oscars 2019 race for the Best Foreign Language Film Award. Yesterday, the filmmaker took to Instagram to share a throwback video of her reaction when she learned that Capharnaüm was one of the nominees revealed by Academy of Motion Pictures Arts and Sciences for the 91st Academy Awards. On a video call with the movie’s actor Zain Al Rafeea, Labaki is seen overwhelmed with emotions as she begans to tear up.

Following the throwback post, Labaki once again shared a heartwarming video, but this time to thank the actors and the crew behind the project with a compilation of some never before seen behind-the-scenes moments. Captioning the video, Labaki wrote, “No matter what happens next, to me you are all winners! You are a miracle of resilience and perseverance. Zain, Treasure, Yordanos, Cedra, Farah, Alaa, Fadi, Kawthar, Joseph, Samira! I know how hard your struggle has been and still is and I hope this film will help your voices resonate louder every day. Elias, Said, Nour and all my other actors your contribution has been precious. Thank you all for being the best part of this beautiful journey. Your faces, your smiles, your words, have changed me forever!”
