September cover star Mila Abouchalbak may be young, but the seven year old has sadly already witnessed so much pain and grief in her life. Chosen to represent the young generation of Lebanese, Abouchalbak, who has vitiligo, was photographed in Beirut by Tarek Moukaddem and styled by Amine Jreissati, two months before the devastating explosion that ripped through the city.  However, her interview took place after the incident, in the mountains of Lebanon – Abouchalbak’s family home in the capital was affected, forcing them to flee.

In her cover interview with Vogue Arabia, the brave youngster wrote down her dreams and hopes for her future and of other children like her, and that of her country.

The future according to Mila Abouchalbak…

Hi, I am Mila. I am seven years old and I live in Beirut. I have vitiligo and I want to inspire other Arab girls like me, who are unique. These are my wishes for the future written from my beautiful city that will soon rise once again.

When I grow up, I want to be a vet, a model, and a hip-hop teacher.

The best part of being my age is I get to enjoy life and play with my friends knowing my family is always with me.

What I love most about Beirut is, I love the people in Beirut and how they love life and fight for their rights.

During lockdown, I was lucky to stay home with my parents because they didn’t go to work.

My advice for other girls who are different is, remember you are beautiful no matter what, and don’t let anybody get you down.

My role model in life is Winnie Harlow the vitiligo supermodel.

If I had three magic wishes, I would ask for Lebanon to be ok, for people to get their homes back and for coronavirus to go away.

I’m happiest when I’m safe with my family, friends, and dog.

I feel safe when I’m with my mom.

My wish for Lebanon is, to re-build it and make sure no-one is homeless.
