Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have just signed a major multi-year deal with streaming platform Spotify, to produce and host a series of podcasts.
The news was announced by Spotify on Tuesday, where it was revealed that an elusive partnership has been formed between the Swedish streaming service and the Duke and Duchess of Sussex‘s new audio-first production company titled Archewell Audio, derived from their non-profit organization, Archewell. The new-found partnership will see Meghan and Harry produce content that will listen and tell “uplifting and entertaining stories have been a vital part of many of our lives this past year” and feature many “diverse perspectives and voices.”
A trailer of what is to come from Archewell Audio and Spotify was released by the streaming service this week.
“What we love about podcasting is that it reminds all of us to take a moment and to really listen, to connect to one another without distraction,” the couple said in a statement. “With the challenges of 2020, there has never been a more important time to do so, because when we hear each other, and hear each other’s stories, we are reminded of how interconnected we all are.”
The couple plans to release their first complete podcast series from Archewell Audio on Spotify next year, in 2021. However, as a sneak preview of what is to come, a holiday special hosted by The Duke and Duchess will be released on Spotify ahead of the new year. The festive special will see the Duke and Duchess of Sussex joined by inspirational guests that will tell their stories of “hope and compassion” in celebration of the end of 2020.
“The Duke and Duchess of Sussex may live in California, but the power of their voices rests in their status as citizens of the world,” says Spotify chief content and advertising business officer Dawn Ostroff. “That they are embracing the extraordinary capacity of podcasts on Spotify while also seeking to elevate underrepresented voices is a testament to their appreciation for the potential of audio storytelling. We are proud to partner with The Duke and Duchess and look forward to listeners hearing directly from them and the other creators that they will be elevating via our global platform,” she added.
The first complete series from Archewell Audio and Spotify, launching in 2021, will be available to stream for free on Spotify.
