Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have appeared in a newly released portrait together. It is a black-and-white photograph taken by Matt Sayles which sees the couple pose in suits, at their new home in Montecito, California.
This official portrait is the Duke and Duchess’ first one since they stepped down from their duties as senior royals and captures them smiling, looking relaxed, and at ease. Prince Harry sits on the arm of the chair Markle is sat on, with an arm going behind her. He’s seen wearing a button-down oxford shirt without a tie, while Markle, who is photographed mid-laughter as she looks away from the camera, is seen in a fitted blazer and pants by Alexander McQueen paired with a plain white T-shirt. She wears her hair down in her signature waves and a center-parting.
What has caught the attention of many in the portrait, is Markle’s watch. Besides her Cartier Love bracelet, the Duchess is also wearing a gold watch on her left wrist, which is believed to be Princess Diana‘s Cartier Tank Française watch. This is one of the few heirlooms the former actor has inherited from her late mother-in-law, the Princess of Wales. On her wedding day, Markle wore a ring that once belonged to the Princess, and later in 2018, she wore a pair of butterfly earrings and a gold bracelet belonging to Princess Diana, while on a royal tour of Australia, New Zealand, Tonga, and Fiji with Prince Harry.
The portrait marks the couple’s upcoming special appearance on Time100 Talks, a series of virtual conversations that brings together some of the most influential voices in the world. The episode in which the Duke and Duchess are said to make opening and closing remarks at is titled “Engineering a Better World” and will take place on Tuesday, October 20.
