Meghan Markle made a surprise television appearance this week as she joined CNN‘s annual TV special, Heroes: An All-Star Tribute, to honor volunteers that have supported others throughout the pandemic.
Markle starred in a video clip, that was later released on social media, where she thanked those who have helped to keep people fed through the challenges brought by coronavirus this year. The video saw Markle, seemingly in the garden of her Santa Barbara, California home and dressed in a dusty pink high-necked pussy-bow blouse with a soft, and relaxed hair updo.
The Duchess of Sussex gave a two-minute-long speech referring to the challenges from the pandemic and highlighted the generosity that has inspired communities and volunteers who are continuing to support their neighbors in need during the global crisis. “In a year that has been universally challenging for everyone, I’m inspired by the stories of compassion in our communities,” Markle’s speech began. “Across the country, people have put their own needs aside to come together and support the collective wellbeing of those around them.”

The issues faced by families as a result of the pandemic is a cause close to Markle and her husband Prince Harry‘s hearts. Earlier this year, during the summer months, the couple volunteered in their new home of California, delivering meals to families in need, through Project Food Angel, an organization that delivers medically tailored meals to chronically ill people.
The speech for CNN was Markle’s first public appearance since she wrote an open letter to the New York Times, detailing a tragic miscarriage that she and Prince Harry suffered over the summer.
The CNN Heroes is a multiplatform campaign that shines a spotlight and honors individuals that have made outstanding contributions to help improve the lives of others.
