Even though live concerts and world tours have been canceled to urge people to #StayHome and play their individual part in containing the Covid-19 outbreak for the public’s collective health, musicians are virtually connecting with fans through online performances, serenading followers worldwide with their greatest hits from the safety of their homes instead. Maya Diab plans to become one of the first artists from the Middle East to join the virtual concert wave with a live gig this Thursday, May 14 on her YouTube page.

Although not many details have been released about the upcoming gig just yet, the Lebanese singer has hinted it will be the “first 360 virtual live show in the region”. Viewers can tune in at 12 am UAE time to watch Diab perform her most popular songs accompanied by a band via video conferencing for her second streaming party during the pandemic. The first, Behind the Screen with Maya Diab, occurred a month ago on April 16, and is already uploaded on her page for virtual concertgoers to enjoy in the meantime. This initiative began with the hopes of inviting music enthusiasts to unite in their shared love of music, according to Diab.

“When the world was forcibly silenced, the only thing that remained was the sound of nature: the whistling of the wind, the song of the birds, the melodic flow of water,” the superstar wrote on her channel. “At times like these, the only language that unites us all is that of music. In an effort to make our unity even stronger, I want to share my music too, so we too can be connected in these difficult times.”

Apart from Diab, other entertainers from the region are also scheduled to perform their own musical selections on their personal social media platforms this week, including Lebanese composer and pianist Oussama Rahbani today, May 11 at 7 pm UAE time on Facebook and Iranian-British singer Sami Yusuf on Wednesday, May 13 at 9:30 pm in a Facebook event hosted by the Abu Dhabi Music & Arts Foundation.
