If you’ve seen Greta Gerwig’s box office smash-fit Barbie film (or are gearing up for its release in the region tomorrow!), you’ll be more than familiar with the film’s excellent costumes.

Three weeks on from the film’s global release, toymaker Mattel has delivered with a whole new line of special-edition dolls based on some of the most memorable costumes. This follows on from an initial release that coincided with film release – all the movie-inspired dolls are available online, although we have to warn you that many have swiftly sold out.

The dolls include Barbie & Ken’s matching neon rollerblading outfits complete with tie-dye visors and bright green knee pads.

In this “his n’ hers” looks in the film, we adored Margot Robbie’s Barbie looking very ‘Jane Fonda aerobics’ in a leotard and cycling shorts combination accessorized to perfection with neon hoop earrings, while Ken has an excellent neon bum bag and pink tank top worn under an open gilet. The Barbie & Ken dolls are matched very accurately indeed.

Then, of course, there’s Weird Barbie – excellently played by Kate McKinnon – with her marker-penned eye and punk-esque platinum haircut, plus green snakeskin platform boots (we’d quite like a human-sized pair of these, to be honest…)

The latest launch also includes Ryan Gosling’s Ken’s iconic “Mojo dojo casa house” look (Patriarchy Ken!), which fans will know features a rather impressive long white faux fur coat together with bandana and chain belt. There’s serious attention to detail here – the coat has a red lining printed with horses, which as we know Ken becomes obsessed with in the film.

His black, white and pink fringed cowboy look from when he enters the real world, plus white cowboy hat and bright pink neck-kerchief, is also available.

Then there’s Margot Robbie’s Barbie in her utilitarian pink jumpsuit, patterned headscarf and white trainers look which she wears as a sort of “uniform” during the de-brainwashing of the Barbies campaign upon return from the “real world” realm (at this point I really hope you’ve seen the film, as it’s a tough one to explain otherwise…).

Finally, President Barbie, played by Issa Rae, has been immortalized in doll form – complete with pink and gold gala gown plus ‘President’ sash.
