To celebrate the arrival of Marzook Spring 2018 handbag collection at Bloomingdale’s Kuwait, siblings Fahad and Shouq Al Marzouq hosted a trunk show for their VIP clientele. The three-day by appointment showcase that was held in the personal shopping area played host to the line that serves as an homage to the veil. “We wanted to portray the veil and modesty in a beautiful, independent and confident way, says Shouq. “For me, modesty is an attitude. It’s not about the way you dress or the way you look. It’s about the way you present and carry yourself. It can be fun, it can be beautiful, and it can be cool,” Shouq adds.
The range of crystal-encrusted orb-shaped clutches picks up on the thread of statement-making handbags that’s made Marzook a success. Handlaid with 2000 Swarovski crystals, one of the pieces feature an abstract pattern. “The crystal pattern is not uniform, because we want each person to perceive it in their own way. I see it as a heart. However, Fahad sees it as a star. It depends on which angle you carry it and how the light bounces off the bag.” Shouq explains.
Continuing on the brand’s circular codes, the line also includes their signature transparent Lucid clutch that’s elevated with waves of crystals and dropped pearls that draws inspiration from the Emirati batoola niqab. Meanwhile, for those who crave the freedom to go handsfree and have room to fit their phone, the collection introduces a new a rectangular metallic bag aptly named the Capsule. “This one can be worn like a fanny pack and it has been really popular. We’re already sold out the silver and transparent options,” says Fahad.
What’s next for Marzook? A sunglasses collaboration is currently in the works as well as a partnership with an haute couture house – both are expected to launch in July. Meanwhile, the designer siblings are getting ready to host their second event with Saudi artist Nughamshi under the theme of feminism this upcoming Ramadan.
