Tunisian Star Marwan Kenzari to Play Jafar in Aladdin Remake

Disney has cast Tunisian-Dutch actor Marwan Kenzari in the role of the evil vizier Jafar in its live-action adaptation of Aladdin.

Kenzari will be joining Egyptian-Canadian actor Mena Massoud as Aladdin, Power Rangers actor Naomi Scott in the role of Princess Jasmine and Will Smith as Genie, in the Guy Ritchie-directed film.

Born in the Netherlands to Tunisian parents, the seasoned stage actor graduated from the Maastricht Academy of Performing Arts in 2009. He has since enjoyed a plethora of roles in Hollywood, including in the remakes of The Mummy and Ben-Hur. Kenzari is also set to star in Kenneth Branagh’s upcoming Murder on the Orient Express remake.

News of his new role as Jafar in the highly anticipated live-action Aladdin has sent the internet into a frenzy, with fans sharing the news alongside workout photos and gifs of the handsome actor.

Completing the cast for the Disney movie is former SNL star Nasim Pedrad, who will be playing Mara, a comedic new role described as Princess Jasmine’s handmaiden and friend, which was created specifically for the reboot.
