Manuel Arnaut and HE Noura AlKaabi on the Present and Future of UAE’s Creative Scene and Having Ice Creams Post-Lockdown

On Monday, April 20, HE Noura AlKaabi, UAE Minister of Culture and Knowledge Development joined Vogue Arabia’s Editor-in-Chief for the very first part of our latest series “Manuel Arnaut in Conversation with…”. From their respective homes, the minister and editor came together virtually for what was an engaging and enlightening discussion viewed by Vogue Arabia readers and culture enthusiasts from around the world.

Actively working in keeping the UAE’s art scene alive, the minister spoke about the frame of mind of creative professionals, and how the community is sticking together in times of crisis. Arnaut also asked the minister about the impact of Expo 2020 Dubai being postponed, on which AlKaabi said, “I think it will be our opportunity with Expo 2020, or Expo 2021, to explore the lesson learnt from different nations and different counterparts.” While things are indeed in a state of flux, Arnaut and AlKaabi discussed how museums and learning institutions should now think out of the box and tap into the potential of the digital medium. The conversation also led to AlKaabi sharing how she has been adjusting to working from home and when answering questions sent in by our readers, AlKaabi shared where she will be found once the mandatory lockdown has been lifted. “Taking a walk at the Abu Dhabi Corniche, having an ice-cream,” said the minister.
