Another international edition of the Loewe Foundation Craft Prize has been announced. Submissions for the annual prize will be accepted until October 30, 2019. Last year’s edition received over 2500 submissions from 100 countries. Conceived by Loewe creative director Jonathan Anderson and launched three years ago, the prize awards excellence, artistic merit, and originality in modern craftsmanship. “Craft is always going to be modern,” comments Anderson. “It is about creating objects that have a formula of their own and speak their own language creating a dialogue that didn’t exist before. It is about newness as much as it is about tradition.” Encouraging international artisans is embedded in the spirit of the Spanish house, which originated as a collective craft workshop in 1846; the Loewe Craft Prize 2020 will award the winner with a 50,000 Euro cash prize.
