HM Queen Rania Jets Into China to Deliver Philanthropic Speech

She has been lauded for her philanthropy, receiving last year’s humanitarian award at the Fashion for Relief gala, so HM Queen Rania was a fitting choice to deliver the keynote address at a recent conference. The Jordanian royal is visiting China this week, where she gave a speech at the Alibaba Foundation’s second biennial XIN Philanthropy Conference in Hangzhou on Wednesday.

Her Majesty threw a spotlight on children around the world who do not have adequate access to education during her keynote address, stating that “education is the birthright of every child [and] is an act of love.” “Education is also logical. It is the source of all human progress, the antidote to extremism, and the foundation of any peaceful society,” the royal added, according to Business Wire. Queen Rania called for the world to address the crisis, while also highlighting the difference a singular gesture can make. “Yes, small can be powerful. What starts small can grow,” said HM.

The royal later shared an image taken at the event, where she wore a white, belted Georges Chakra blazer emblazoned with red detailing, and paired with fluid black pants. “Delighted to have participated in this esteemed gathering hosted by the Alibaba Group to promote philanthropic work in China and beyond,” HM captioned the shot. During her visit, Queen Rania also visited the headquarters of Alibaba, a multinational company co-founded by Jack Ma, who is also the group’s chairman.

Her Majesty toured the Xixi campus to learn more about the company’s history, advanced technologies, and philanthropic work carried as under its Alibaba Foundation, a private charity fund established in 2011 to encourage sustainable philanthropy. Queen Rania later described the visit, at which she was accompanied by Ma, as “a great opportunity to explore partnerships and share lessons learnt in education.” Ma also visited Jordan last year, where his foundation pledged US$3 million to the Queen Rania Foundation and its education-focused initiatives such as the Queen Rania Teacher Academy.
