Stop the press, a new celebrity hashtag was born this weekend: #TheJSisters. The social signifier refers to Priyanka Chopra and Sophie Turner, the two actors who are engaged to Nick and Joe Jonas respectively and are soon to be sister-in-laws. The duo bonded over nights out and boat trips in Amsterdam during Chopra’s bachelorette party and cemented their friendship with a piggyback ride as the celebrations drew to a close.
“In heels! Ugh. This is what you have to do for sister-in-laws these days,” Chopra (with Turner hoisted onto her back) exclaimed via Instagram Stories at the end of their evening. But the trip was not all #HighHeelFails. A lot of carefully-curated content of Chopra’s outfit changes – cream knits and a feathered showstopper gown were highlights – was posted on her social media, while her bachelorette crew, including filmmaker Shrishti Behl Arya, chimed in with encouraging captions such as “bride goals” for good measure.
Of course, the bachelorette party was always going to be fabulous. Nick Jonas set the tone for the couple’s impending nuptials when he shut down Tiffany’s London flagship to choose a four-carat cushion-cut engagement ring for his bride-to-be in total privacy. The storied jeweler then hosted a bridal shower for Chopra and 100 of her friends in its Blue Box Café in New York, where the likes of Lupita Nyong’o and Kelly Ripa left with goodie bags comprising monogrammed passport cases and champagne. In short, the #PCbachelorette series so far has been remiss of many tropes we have come to associate with hen and stag parties – Comedy straws? Team T-shirts? Pah! – apart from the multiple hashtags.
As the wedding plans forge on and yet more content emerges, here’s hoping #TheJSisters are forthcoming with insights into their budding friendship and the #HighHeelFails that undercut all the glitz and glamour.
