They’re already preparing to welcome their first child next year, but parenthood isn’t the only adventure the Duke and Duchess of Sussex are embarking on in 2019. The newlyweds will move home in the next few months, it has been announced, leaving behind their current two-bedroom residence in Kensington Palace.
Prince Harry and Meghan, who are expecting a baby next spring, will relocate to a property in London’s Windsor, to accommodate their growing family. The royals will inhabit Frogmore Cottage, a 10-bedroom home gifted to them by Prince Harry’s grandmother, HM Queen Elizabeth II. The property, which also include a gym and nursery, according to the Daily Mail, is on the grounds of Windsor Castle, and holds a special place in the duke and duchess’s hearts.
The cottage is part of the estate where they shot their official engagement portraits, and also encapsulates Frogmore House, where the couple held their evening wedding reception on May 19. “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex will move to Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor Estate early next year as they prepare for the arrival of their first child,” Kensington Palace said in a statement. “The couple have lived at Nottingham Cottage since their engagement last year. Windsor is a very special place for Their Royal Highnesses and they are grateful that their official residence will be on the estate.”
Frogmore Cottage is expected to undergo renovations after existing palace staff evacuate the property, with the Sussexes due to move in before the birth of their child. Windsor is also where the couple tied the knot earlier this year, exchanging vows at St. George’s Chapel.
Original reports had suggested the duke and duchess would move to the recently renovated Apartment 1 in Kensington Palace, the neighboring property to Prince William and the Duchess of Cambridge‘s home. However, the couples won’t have too far to travel for their future catch-ups, with Windsor situated around 23 miles from Kensington Palace.
