HM Queen Rania Visits Workshops Designed to Empower Women

Ramadan is almost at an end, and it’s been a rather busy Holy Month for HM Queen Rania Al Abdullah. From the graduation of Princess Salma to celebrating Jordan’s Independence Day, the royal has been out and about on many official engagements, and her latest is particularly noteworthy.

On Tuesday, Her Majesty journeyed to Amman’s Jabal Al Qusor area, to visit the headquarters of the Families Development Association. The women’s association is dedicated to improving the lives of families living in poverty, women seeking employment, at-risk youth, and the elderly. Queen Rania met with several of those that have benefitted from the FDA’s programs, which include counseling, training, and career services.

Touring the facilities, the royal mingled with women enrolled in workshops such as sewing and workplace training, and also dropped into the kitchen to chat with those undertaking a cooking program. “Visited the Families Development Association today – an institution that believes in the importance of women’s empowerment for the advancement of local communities as a whole,” HM told her 4.5 million Instagram followers, as she shared a snapshot of her day. “Thank you for your tremendous efforts!”

The FDA, which was first established in 1999, “aims to empower women by helping them develop skills needed in the modern workplace and by increasing their awareness of their rights”, according to Queen Rania’s press office. Whether teaching women to create and market their own handicrafts or addressing youth unemployment with training programs, the association has supported many in Amman and beyond.

Queen Rania’s visit came shortly after the royal celebrated her 25th wedding anniversary with King Adbullah II. The marital milestone was marked by HM on Instagram, with the royal sharing a portrait of the couple. “So thankful for every day spent by your side. Happy anniversary,” the royal captioned the shot. The pair, who share four children, first met at a dinner party in 1992, before announcing their engagement six months later. “He had such a great smile and such infectious energy, we got on really well. And the rest, as they say, is history,” HM told Stellar magazine in 2016 of their first meeting.
