HM Queen Rania Marks 25 Years of Marriage With Touching Portrait

The rest of the world might still be starry-eyed over the new Duke and Duchess of Sussex following last month’s royal wedding, but when it comes to regal romances, we’ve long had a soft spot for HM Queen Rania and King Abdullah II. The Jordanian royals are this week celebrating their wedding anniversary, after tying the knot 25 years ago on June 10, 1993.

The marital milestone was marked by Queen Rania on Instagram, with HM sharing a portrait of the couple with her 4.5 millions followers. “So thankful for every day spent by your side. Happy anniversary,” the royal captioned the shot. The pair, who share four children, first met at a dinner party in 1992, before announcing their engagement six months later. “He had such a great smile and such infectious energy, we got on really well. And the rest, as they say, is history,” HM told Stellar magazine in 2016 of their first meeting.

The then-Rania al-Yassin wed then-Prince of Jordan, Abdullah II bin Al-Hussein, at Zahran Palace in Amman, with the bride wearing a short-sleeved gown crafted by British designer Bruce Oldfield. In their quarter-century of marriage, the two have often shared touching tributes to each other, as well as their children: Crown Prince Hussein, Princess Iman, Princess Salma, and Prince Hashem. On their anniversary last year, Queen Rania revealed she “still feels like the luckiest woman in the world”.

The couple’s anniversary falls one day after the anniversary of King Abdullah II’s accession to the throne, which took place on June 9 1999. The moment was marked by the royal’s eldest son, Crown Prince Hussein, who shared a snapshot of the two with his 1.4 million Instagram followers.

“We remain your loyal soldiers, standing shoulder to shoulder with you to defend #OurJordan, and taking strength from your courage and dedication,” he captioned the image.
