Rumors first swirled earlier this month, but now it looks to have been confirmed: Gigi Hadid and Zayn Malik have consciously recoupled, and it happened quite some time ago. The A-list duo, who announced their split in March after two years together, have reunited according to a shot that the half-Palestinian supermodel shared with her 41 million Instagram followers this week. Hadid uploaded a selfie with the British singer to her Instagram Stories on Tuesday, showing the twosome cuddled up behind the scenes of a fashion campaign.
The 23-year-old was shooting for Moschino, with the snap actually captured last month, according to Hadid, who captioned the shot May 9, 2018. Moschino’s creative director Jeremy Scott also reshared the image, adding “BTS (behind the scenes) with Gigi and Zayn.” The former One Direction star does not appear in the campaign itself, leading fans to assume he was merely visiting his on-off flame on set.
The runway star first hinted at a reconciliation with the singer after sharing a selfie of the two on her Instagram Stories earlier this month (and we all know that making it “Instagram official” counts for something). The pair were pictured playing Pokémon, and while 25-year-old Malik’s face was obscured, his bleach-blond crop of hair is rather distinctive. Neither the model nor Malik have publicly confirmed whether their romance is back on, however, a now-series of selfies would suggest so.
“Zigi,” as the pair’s fans affectionately called them, started dating in 2015 and went on to cement themselves as one of fashion’s most dynamic duo. In early 2016, their relationship reached peak status when Hadid appeared in the singer’s Pillowtalk music video. However, they didn’t make their relationship public until they attended the 2016 Met Gala together, wearing coordinating outfits— naturally.
The couple first revealed their split in March, with Malik asking his 26.9 million Twitter followers for privacy. “Gigi and I had an incredibly meaningful, loving and fun relationship and I have a huge amount of respect and adoration for Gigi as a woman and a friend,” the singer wrote. “She has such an incredible soul. I’m grateful to all of our fans for respecting this difficult decision and our privacy at this time.”
Hadid echoed his sentiment minutes later, writing on her Twitter page: “Breakup statements often seem impersonal because there is really no way to put into words what two people experience together over a few years.” The model continued: “I’m forever grateful for the love, time, and life lessons that Z and I shared. I want nothing but the best for him and will continue to support him as a friend that I have immense respect and love for. As for the future, whatever’s meant to be will always be.”
