Ellen Von Unwerth‘s lens has captured some of the world’s most iconic supermodels, and now, the photographer’s evocative images are set to be on display for the first time ever in the Middle East. Following the major success of her “Ladyland” exhibitions – a collection of her most iconic photography from the past 30 years – in London and Monaco earlier this year, “Here Comes Trouble”, the German photographer’s third solo exhibition with Opera Gallery Group, will be opening its doors in Beirut on November 17.

The Lebanese retrospective will display some of Von Unwerth’s most iconic work, including the black and white photographs of a young Claudia Schiffer for a 1990 Guess campaign, which ultimately marked the start of the photographer’s illustrious three-decade career. Other photographs on display include “Milk”, a playful portrait of Kate Moss wearing a light pink negligee and coat, and crouched in front of a fridge wiping milk off her face, captured for for Vogue US in 1995.

Born in Frankfurt in 1954, Von Unwerth was orphaned at a young age. Following a stint in foster homes, she joined a small circus in Germany. “It filled me with a lifetime of inspiration,” she says of her time with the Circus Roncalli. At 18, while in her first year of university, Von Unwerth was scouted by a model agent in Munich, which led to a contract with Elite models in Paris. Though she admits to not feeling any real affinity to the craft, modeling served to introduce her to the seductive world of fashion. She would go on to cement her status as one of the most celebrated and prolific photographers of our time, shooting everyone from Naomi Campbell and Linda Evangelista to Sofia Boutella and Madonna.

“Here Comes Trouble” will open on November 17 to December 15, 2018 at the Opera Gallery Beirut.
