This Christmas, the fab four will be reunited once again. Multiple outlets report that Prince William, the Duchess of Cambridge, Prince Harry, and Meghan, Duchess of Sussex will spend the holidays together this year, after previous rumors suggested that the Cambridges and Sussexes would spend Christmas apart (with Will and Kate possibly heading to the Middleton compound in Bucklebury instead).
Normally, this separate Christmas business wouldn’t be a big deal. William and Kate have spent holidays in Bucklebury before, and everyone’s got to see their in-laws during the holidays, even the future King of England. But public relations-wise, things haven’t been going great for the royal household of late.
Over the past two weeks, the pervading royal story has been about “tension” between the two couples. News that Harry and Meghan will move out of Kensington Palace to Frogmore Cottage in Windsor escalated matters. And this weekend, the Palace issued a rare denial after The Sun ran a story about an alleged fight between Kate and Meghan.
Kate, meanwhile, said how excited she was for Harry and Meghan’s new baby during a recent appearance. And now, confirmation that the Cambridges and Sussexes will be together for the holidays shows a unified front, no matter their (real or imagined) issues.
And where will they all be holidaying? In Norfolk, home to William and Kate’s Anmer Hall and the Queen’s Sandringham Estate. The royal family traditionally spends Christmas at Sandringham—a formal affair that involves black tie meals, a morning church service, and a viewing of the Queen’s speech. There’s no confirmation on whether Harry and Meghan will stay with Will and Kate, like they did last year, or with the Queen. But they will take certainly take part in the same larger activities.
Holidays can’t help but bring families together; even royal ones.
