The Duchess of Sussex’s Mother Has Been Invited to the Royal Family’s Christmas

She staunchly stood by her daughter’s side as the then-Meghan Markle made her way to marry Britain’s Prince Harry, as the only member of the star’s family in attendance. And while the former Suits actor may have joined the Royal Family when she said “I do” on May 19, it looks like Doria Ragland has also been welcomed into “The Firm”. The LA-based yoga instructor has reportedly been invited to spend Christmas at Sandringham, the first that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex will mark as newlyweds.

The invitation was extended by HM Queen Elizabeth II, according to multiple publications, who reached out to Ragland as a “mark of her respect” for the Duchess of Sussex, the Daily Mail reports. A source added to the Sunday Express that it was a rare and unusual move from the family, but a “very thoughtful gesture”. According to reports, the family of Catherine, Duchess of Cambridge, have not yet been invited to Sandringham for Christmas, though the royal has been married to Prince William since 2011. However, the Middletons are based in Berkshire – a few hours’ drive away – whereas American-raised Meghan has no immediate family of her own in the UK.

If she does make the trip over the Atlantic, Ragland will spent the last Christmas that the duke and duchess will have before they become parents. The royals announced last month that they are expecting their first child, due in the spring of next year. Ragland most recently jetted to the UK to join Meghan as she launched Together, a cookbook created with women of the Muslim Cultural Heritage Centre.
