Lady Gaga has been announced as one of the performers at this year’s highly-anticipated MTV Video Music Awards. This will be the American popstar’s ﬁrst performance at the event in seven years. This Thursday, MTV announced on their Instagram that Gaga, who along with Ariana Grande is tied as this year’s most-nominated singers, will perform at the event. Seven of Gaga’s nine nominations including video of the year are for her collaboration with Grande on the number one hit single Rain On Me, a single from Gaga’s latest album- Chromatica.
The awards have also debuted new coronavirus-era categories — for the best new music video from home and best quarantine performance, for which Gaga has also been nominated for Smile from the TV special One World: Together At Home.
This year;s event is set to be hosted by Keke Palmer and already has an impressive lineup with stars like The Weeknd, BTS, Doja Cat, J Balvin, Maluma and Roddy Ricch set to take the stage. It was previously revealed that BTS will be debuting their English-only single Dynamite at the awards show, which also marks their own VMAs debut. The 2020 VMAs were originally supposed to take place at the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn. However, the awards show will now be held outdoors at various places in New York City in response to the coronavirus pandemic. Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Justin Bieber, DaBaby, Megan Thee Stallion, and Harry Styles are among this year’s top nominees.
The Video Music Awards will air live on August 30 at 8 pm EST on MTV.
