This Year’s Korean Film Festival is All Set to Celebrate UAE’s Year of Tolerance

The Korean Film Festival returns to Abu Dhabi today for its third year. Organized by the Embassy of the Republic of Korea, the four-day festival will take place at Yas Mall Abu Dhabi’s Vox Cinema from June 26-29.

Along with one Emirati film and nine Korean movies all subtitled in English, fans of Korean cinema can expect a change in this year’s collection of movies. In celebration of the spirit of UAE’s Year of Tolerance, three movies from Korea and UAE have been picked for their depiction of different people in different social settings.

The festival opens today with the screening of Innocent Witness which tells the story of a lawyer and his relationship with an autistic teenager who is a witness to a crime. ‘The opening film — Innocent Witness — is a drama that gets across a message of tolerance, highlighting the importance of trying to understand each other through frank communication,” said Kwon Yongwoo, ambassador of the Republic of Korea to the UAE to Gulf News.

Korean actor Lee Kyu-hyung who plays a supporting role in the movie will take part in a meet-and-greet and autograph session prior to the screening as well as a Q&A session with the film’s producer, Lee Jun-woo, later.
