In a clip that went viral on social media earlier this month, Kim Kardashian told women in business that “it seems like nobody wants to work these days”. The businesswoman, who was declared a billionaire last year made her comment in a video published by Variety, claiming that her advice to businesswomen was “get up and work.” The Skims founder faced huge backlash for her words, with people taking to social media to point out that growing up privileged and wealthy played a huge role in Kardashian’s successes. Many also described her comment as “tone deaf.”
I think if you grew up in Beverly Hills with super successful parents in what was simply a smaller mansion… nobody needs to hear your thoughts on success/work ethic. This same 24 hours in the day shit is a nightmare. 99.9% of the world grew up with a VERY different 24 hours. https://t.co/tvafFIyk92

The mother-of-four has now apologized for the statement in an interview on Good Morning America. Kardashian explained her comment was “not a blanket statement” and that she was simply responding to a question. “That statement that I said was without questions and conversation around it. It became a sound bite really with no context,” she said.
Explaining further, she added, “And that sound bite came off the notion and the question right before which was after 20 years of being in the business you’re famous for being famous. My whole tone and attitude changed with the previous question that went into that question about what advice would you give to women.”
Retracing her answer now, the reality TV star clarified the advice she would give: “Having a social media presence and being on a reality show does not mean overnight success. You have to work really hard to get there even if it might seem like it’s easy and that you can build a really successful business off of social media. And you can, if you put in a lot of hard work, and it wasn’t a blanket statement towards women or to feel like I don’t respect the work or think they don’t work hard. I know that they do.”
Kardashian ended her statement by saying, “It was taken out of context but I’m really sorry if it was received that way.”
