Kim Kardashian has addressed the claims that she damaged the famous Marilyn Monroe gown when she wore it to the Met Gala earlier this year.
Appearing on the morning show Today, the mother-of-four shared just why she wanted to wear the dress. “I respect her [Marilyn Monroe],” she said. “I understand how much this dress means to American history and with the Met theme being American, I thought, ‘What is more American than Marilyn Monroe singing ‘Happy Birthday’ to the President of the United States?'” Kardashian told anchors Hoda Kotb and Savannah Guthrie. She continued, “It was such a process. I showed up to the red carpet in a robe and slippers and I put the dress on at the bottom of the carpet, went up and then I changed at the top of the stairs.”
When asked to confirm the claims regarding her ruining the dress were untrue, Kardashian said, “No… Ripley’s and I worked together so well. There were handlers and gloves that put it on me.” Ripley’s Believe it or Not, which owns the dress, has also denied the allegations in a statement from Amanda Joiner, Ripley’s VP of Publishing and Licensing: “From the bottom of the Met steps, where Kim got into the dress, to the top where it was returned, the dress was in the same condition it started in.”

Kardashian also opened up about her cordial relationship with ex-husband Ye (formerly Kanye West) and how the family celebrated Father’s Day together. “Everything is going well,” the 41-year-old shared, while adding, “We had, you know, Father’s Day in the house. The kids spent the day with him, and then we had a big Father’s Day dinner, and North cooked.” Kardashian and West have four children together and the former also shared a few pictures via Instagram stories of Ye and their children to celebrate the holiday. On being asked about the Instagram stories, the entrepreneur said, “Of course, I wanted to honor and respect the wonderful people and fathers and men in my life who raised me and are raising my children. So everything is going well.”
Kardashian filed for divorce from the rapper in February 2021. Since then, the beauty mogul has been in a relationship with actor and comedian Pete Davidson. “I waited a while,” Kardashian said. “I waited, like, a good 10 months before I was ready to open myself up. I think you definitely need that time to yourself, and then once you’re ready to get out there I just — I felt like I wanted new energy and something different,” she added. The reality star has been dating the comedian since October, after hosting Saturday Night Live together.
