When the absence of Samantha Jones in the sequel of Sex and the City was announced, there were widespread reactions on the internet. Fans of the series shared their confusion and disappointment on social media. According to rumors, Sarah Jessica Parker and Cattrall never got along, and it was simply not possible for them to work together. Kim Cattrall has two new and exciting projects in the pipeline. She also confided to Variety about her return which is absolutely not possible according to her.

“I was never asked to be part of the reboot.”

Remember, a few years ago, the idea of a third film had flourished, without ever seeing the light of day. “I would have preferred for all of us to have some kind of event to warrant a third film. That didn’t happen” the actor explains. “Can you imagine going back to a job you did 25 years ago?”. According to her, she was never offered to reprise her role as Samantha, the seductress and man-eater that is so beloved: “I was never asked to be part of the reboot. I made my feelings clear after the possible third movie, so I found out about it like everyone else did—on social media”, she confides. When we ask her if it is possible to see her one day on the small screen, in this role that made her famous, for her, the answer is clear: “That’s a no. It’s powerful to say no.” Kim Cattrall only confirms (unfortunately) what we already knew: Samantha Jones will never be back.

Upcoming projects

Although she will forever be associated with Samantha Jones, the most liberated New Yorker of the 1990s, Kim Cattrall did make a comeback this year. The actor plays the future version of Sophie, the main character played by Hilary Duff, in How I Met Your Father, a spin-off series of How I Met Your Mother.

In other news, Cattrall will be a guest star in the reboot of Queer As Folk, a classic series from the 2000s which follows the adventures of a group of men in Manchester. The 2021 version of the original show will follow the adventures of a group of friends in New Orleans, whose lives have been transformed following a tragedy. The actor joins the cast which already features Ryan O’Connell, Jesse James Keitel, Candace Grace, Johnny Sibilly, Devin Way and Fin Argus. Kim Cattrall’s comeback is the best news we have had in a long time.
