King Charles III has honored Kate Middleton with a new title in recognition of her “taking on more responsibilities.”
Kate Middleton recently received a new title and royal appointment from King Charles III. Bestowed upon her by the monarch on the same day as her son Prince Louis’s sixth birthday, the appointment is of the Royal Companion of the Order of the Companions of Honour. Not only did the Princess of Wales receive the title while undergoing preventative chemotherapy, she has also made history by becoming the first Royal Companion named to this order. According to reports, King Charles chose the princess for the honor because of the “esteem she is held” in.
Established by King George V in 1917, the Order of the Companions of Honour was recognizes outstanding achievements in the fields of arts, sciences, medicine and public service. Members who are named to this order are limited to 65 at a time, alongside honorees from outside the Commonwealth countries. Currently, these include David Attenborough, Elton John, Anna Wintour, Judi Dench, and Maggie Smith.

The mother-of-three is not the only member of the royal family to have received a new title. Prince William was appointed by his father to be Great Master of the Most Honourable Order of the Bath. The role was previously filled by the king himself, and had been vacant since he acceded to the throne in 2022. The Most Honourable Order of the Bath was established by King George I in 1725, and is awarded to members of the military or civil service in recognition of exemplary service. Queen Camilla was also given the title of Grand Master and First or Principal Dame Grand Cross of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire. It was established by King George V in 1917, and honors a broader cross-section of society, both military and civilian.
