Kensington Palace has given a rare update regarding Kate Middleton’s cancer treatment and her potential return to work.
As Kate Middleton continues her recovery away from the public eye after being diagnosed with cancer, Kensington Palace has offered an update about her return to royal duties. According to US Weekly, a spokesperson from the palace shared that there is still uncertainty around the time when the Princess of Wales would come back to work, and that is dependent on her medical advice. “We have been really clear that [Kate] needs the space and the privacy to recover right now,” the representative said. “She will return to work when she has had the green light from doctors.”
While this is not unexpected, the source also added that Kate Middleton may not return to her previous role as we know it. According to reports, the princess’s recovery is “going well,” and those closest to her are “reevaluating what she’s going to be able to take on when she comes back. She may never come back in the role that people saw her in before.”
The Princess of Wales announced her cancer diagnosis in March, after weeks of speculation and theories regarding her whereabouts after she paused public duties due to her abdomen surgery. “At the time, it was thought that my condition was non-cancerous,” she said in a video shared on Instagram. “The surgery was successful, however, tests after the operation found cancer had been present. My medical team therefore advised that I should go a course of preventative chemotherapy, and I’m now in the early stages of that treatment.”

Asking for privacy, she added, “We hope that you’ll understand that as a family, we now need some time, space, and privacy while I complete my treatment. My work has always brought me a deep sense of joy, and I look forward to being back when I am able. But for now, I must focus on making a full recovery.”
