Jennifer Lopez is a role model to millions, inspiring fans across the world with her movies and music. And every once in a while, one of her followers manages to strike a cord with the star. Close to a decade after it happened, JLo went on record recently to share an experience she had with a fan that has stuck with her for years.
While promoting her upcoming film Marry Me on TheTonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon, Lopez was asked if a fan has ever held up a memorable sign for her during a concert. The multi-hyphenate responded, of course, by confirming that she’s seen several heartfelt signs from fans, but then spoke about one specific interaction that she’ll never forget, and which brought her close to tears mid-conversation. “I went on tour pretty late in my career… I didn’t go until I was in my forties” she said. “Twelve years I’d been recording music and I’d never done a proper world tour. But I remember this woman holding up this sign and saying, ‘I’ve been waiting 14 years to tell you that you helped me be the woman that I am today.'”

Lopez added, “It was so sweet. You don’t realize your music is touching people. You think you’re just doing this thing. We do this thing, and you don’t realize that until you tour the world and people come up to you. I would do the meet-and-greets and they would show me tattoos of my name on their back and so I’m like, ‘What is happening here?'”
The emotional moment also found its way onto Jennifer Lopez’s Instagram feed. The star shared the video clip online as an ode to all her fans, with a sweet caption: “I love every single one of my fans so much!!!!”
