Jennifer Lopez, 52, and Ben Affleck, 49 – who initially called off their engagement 18 years ago – re-ignited their romance last year and haven’t looked back since. The pair got married at an intimate ceremony in Las Vegas on 16 July, which was confirmed by Lopez in her On The JLo newsletter to fans over the weekend. “Love is beautiful. Love is kind. And it turns out love is patient. Twenty years patient,” she wrote, signing off as Jennifer Lynn Affleck.
The heartwarming love story has left us all feeling a touch nostalgic for a time when the couple graced red carpets and starred in films together. The duo dated for two years after meeting on the film set of Gigli. During their two-year relationship, Affleck famously proposed with an opulent pink diamond engagement ring. Just last year, the performer spoke about her love for the ring. While discussing how she was getting through lockdown with hosts Zane Lowe and Rebecca Judd on Apple Music, she revealed that she had been introducing her children to classic Barbra Streisand movies, including Funny Girl.
“I met her [Streisand] at an Oscar party, years ago, and [at the time] I was engaged to Ben Affleck. She’s really into diamonds, which I didn’t know,” Lopez recalled “He had given me a pink diamond, which got a lot of press and… whatever. I loved getting it, don’t get me wrong. So, she came up to me, and like, she’s heard of it. I’m like, ‘Oh My God.’ And she’s like, ‘Can I see your ring?’ And she asked me about the ring, but then she asked me – and I thought it was so strange – about being famous, and how I handle it.”
