Jennifer Lopez is set to return to her action roots with her latest movie, The Mother.
The award-winning singer, dancer, and actor is undoubtedly one of the biggest names in Hollywood and has made her mark on film history with cult classics like Annaconda, and fans are surely awaiting the release of this new Netflix production on May 12.
The 53-year-old will be starring as an assassin who comes out of hiding to protect a daughter she gave up years ago. According to Netflix, her assailants may be dangerous but this femme fatale is a lot more deadly than anyone else especially when it comes to protecting those that she loves. While the movie may be packed with action the audience will also get to see a more vulnerable and emotional side of Lopez’s character as she tries to reconnect with her daughter and make up for all the time they have lost.

Reportedly inspired by The Professional – a classic 1994 spy film starring Natalie Portman – the film is directed by Niki Caro who previously worked on Disney’s live-action Mulan, so she is no stranger to strong female leads. The remaining cast and crew include writers Misha Green and Peter Craig, Lucy Paez as the aforementioned daughter, and a number of other actors including Joseph Fiennes from The Handmaid’s Tale.
In September 2022 Netflix released a teaser trailer for the film captioned, “There’s nothing stronger than a mother’s love—and these assassins are about to learn that the hard way. Jennifer Lopez is The Mother.”
