Jennifer Aniston has opened up about losing friend Matthew Perry for the first time since his death. Aniston wants the world to know that the final days before Perry’s passing saw the actor in a good place.
Speaking to Variety in a recent interview, a tearful Aniston shared that Perry “was not in pain,” before his death at age 54. Aniston started by saying that she would like Perry to be known for all the things he wanted to be remembered as. On the Q With Tom Power podcast in 2022, Perry had said, “I would like to be remembered as somebody who lived well, loved well, was a seeker. And his paramount thing is that he wants to help people. That’s what I want.”

Aniston went on to reveal that Perry was “happy and healthy” before his death. “He had quit smoking. He was getting in shape. He was happy—that’s all I know,” she said. “I was literally texting with him that morning, funny Matty…. He wasn’t struggling.” To that, Aniston’s Morning Show co-star Reese Witherspoon added, “It’s important people know that.” Aniston continued to say, “It is. I want people to know he was really healthy, and getting healthy. He was on a pursuit. He worked so hard. He really was dealt a tough one. I miss him dearly. We all do. Boy, he made us laugh really hard.”
Aniston also addressed the outpouring of tributes for Perry from fans of Friends around the world. “It’s so beautiful. I hope he can know that he was loved in a way he never thought he was,” she said.” I also have to say I think Matthew Perry’s dialect, his way of speaking, created a whole different world. We went with his lead, in a way. It just added something to our joy.”
