It Ends With Us, the film adaptation of Colleen Hoover’s novel of the same name has successfully surpassed box office milestones, leading to questions about its possible sequel.

The It Ends With Us novel, its film adaptation, theme, and cast may be embroiled in controversy, but that hasn’t stopped the movie from being a blockbuster hit. In just 11 days since its release, the film has grossed US $182 million worldwide, and US $100 million domestically, becoming one of only 13 films to reach that milestone in 2024. Seeing as Hoover published the sequel to the novel It Starts With Us in 2022, there are speculations about a potential sequel to the film too.

Justin Baldoni, who directed the film and played the role of Ryle Kincaid, has hinted at a sequel during the promotional rounds. Baldoni also co-founded Wayfarer Studios, which owns the rights to the sequel, while Sony Pictures retains its distribution rights. speaking to Variety, Baldoni shared that “we have the option” on the sequel, however, he had not yet begun to think about it and was focusing on It Ends With Us. The star also made headlines when he told Entertainment Tonight that he thinks there are “better people” to lead the sequel, suggesting Blake Lively, who produced the film, should direct instead.
The alleged tension between Baldoni and Lively is no secret, with audiences noticing that the two were never seen together during the press tour. According to The Hollywood Reporter, Baldoni has also hired a veteran PR crisis manager Melissa Nathan amid the rift. Anonymous sources told THR that the fracture between Baldoni and Lively came about during the postproduction stage, where two different cuts of the movie were produced, including one commissioned by Lively.
