Makeup mogul and Vogue Arabia’s former cover star Huda Kattan has recently ranked number one in the beauty section of 2019’s Instagram Rich List. The American-Iraqi businesswomen is the face of one of the world’s fastest-growing beauty brands, Huda Beauty. In the list compiled by Instagram scheduling tool Hopper HQ, Kattan with her Instagram account @hudabeauty outranked US influencers James Charles and Jeffree Star, Dutch makeup artist Nikki de Jager and British influencer Zoe Sugg.

This is the second time the Dubai-based social media star has topped the list compiled by Hopper HQ which uses internal data, influencer rate cards and public information to list the people who are earning the most through Instagram. According to the report, Kattan has the ability to charge up to $91,300 (AED335,344) for a sponsored post. However, on many occasions, Kattan has opened up about not using her platform for sponsored content.

In the interview by her sister Mona Kattan for Vogue Arabia’s May 2019 issue, Kattan spoke of her brand Huda Beauty, saying, “We started the brand out of passion, with a vision. I’m not here for the money – I’m here for my own need to create.” A quick scroll down the Instagram account for Huda Beauty, as well as Kattan’s personal Instagram account, would show you makeup videos, images of Kattan with her family, and no sponsored posts.

Speaking to her sister in the interview Kattan had also shared the one thing that people didn’t know about them and the brand. “In the beginning, we struggled so much to make money. There were so many times we didn’t know if we were going to make it, if we even had a future. We didn’t have the opportunity to allow for failure. Some brands can have one product do well while one doesn’t. We couldn’t. If there was a failure, we would have gone bankrupt. In order to do the rose gold palette, I didn’t draw a salary for a few months. Nobody knew what was on the line for that launch. It did so well. It changed the industry.”
