In honor of the late Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, his father, His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan Bin Mohammad Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah has issued an Emiri Decree to establish the Khalid Bin Sultan Al Qasimi Humanitarian Foundation.
The charitable institution “aims to commemorate the blessed anniversary of the late Sheikh Khalid bin Sultan bin Mohammed Al Qasimi, and to continue to realize his vision and aspirations in humanitarian work,” Wam, the UAE state news agency, reported.
The foundation aims to continue the humanitarian efforts of Sheikh Khalid Al Qasimi and will run as a non-profit organization that provides support to enhance healthcare, education, and infrastructure on local and international levels.
According to the announcement, the foundation’s work will include “sustainable programs and projects that serve humanity in all fields at the local and international levels, providing assistance to support and improve the healthcare, education and infrastructure sectors, and any other objectives assigned to the foundation by the Chairman of the Board of Trustees.” The foundation will also be exempted from all local government taxes and fees, with the exception of consumption charges.
Sheikh Khalid tragically passed away on July 1 in London, UK. The young royal was an architect and chairman of the Sharjah Urban Planning Council and led work on the Sharjah Architecture Triennial, an exhibition event which happens every three years. He was also the designer behind the British menswear label Qasimi, whose debut collection premiered in 2008. Following his death, the Emirate of Sharjah declared a three-day mourning period.
