Al Mulla and Al Matrooshi—the first Emirati female astronaut—completed a two-year training program at NASA in March 2024, and shared details of their preparation with Sheikh Mohammed, who “urged them to persevere in seeking the highest levels of excellence in this vital field.” The two astronauts are set to jet off into space this year, while the MBZ-SAT, the Arab world’s most advanced satellite to date, and the second to be fully developed by an Emirati team will launch in October 2024 on a SpaceX rocket. The launch will make a significant step in the UAE’s space journey, which first began in 2019, when astronaut Hazza Al Mansouri embarked on the country’s first scientific mission to the International Space Station.

Following the meeting, Hamad Obaid Al Mansoori, Chairman of the Board of Directors of MBRSC, said, “The vision of His Highness Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum inspires us to further strengthen the UAE’s leadership in the field of space. We are proud to be working on the most advanced satellite in the Arab world, named after the President of the UAE. We have great ambitions for our country in the future of space exploration, and we pledge to continue achieving milestones that contribute to its global leadership in this field.”
