HH Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai, has shared a new post as part of his ongoing Instagram series Flashes of Leadership. In the video, the ruler can be seen likening the qualities of a poet to that of a good leader. “A poet sees through his heart,” His Highness says. “A poet sees things in a different light. Their view of life is different. He sees beauty in ordinary, everyday things.”

A renowned poet himself, Sheikh Mohammed has published a collection titled Poems from the Desert. Apart from that, His Highness regularly shares his poetry on social media. According to Sheikh Mohammed, a poet’s unique view on life, his appreciation for seemingly ordinary things, as well as his calm and observant nature are crucial to a good leader as these qualities aid strong leadership. His Highness goes on to add, “He sees the earth, sea, and sky with a different eye. A poet is calm in nature and observant. This, I believe, is what makes a strong leader.”

Through the series Flashes of Leadership, Sheikh Mohammed is known to share inspirational messages, anecdotes, leadership experiences, and more with the public. In the previous video, His Highness reaffirmed the UAE‘s commitment to empowering women and showcased the great achievements women have made in the country. Other videos in the series range from topics such as seeking happiness by seeking knowledge, His Highness’s unique life experiences, compassion, and the importance of a vision for the future.
