January 4, 2023 marks 17 years since HH Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid became the Ruler of Dubai, following the death of his brother, Sheikh Maktoum bin Rashid in 2006. The following day, he was elected Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE by the Supreme Council members after the approval of his nomination by President Sheikh Khalifa.
Under his leadership over the past 17 years, Dubai has transformed into a buzzing center for tourism, commerce, and played host to global events like the World Expo and the upcoming Cop28. It also home to some of the world’s most marvelous landmarks such as the Burj Khalifa, Museum of the Future, and Ain Dubai.
While the entire nation celebrates each Ascension Day by paying tributes to the visionary leader, Sheikh Mohammed, who is also the Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE has marked many of them by launching new plans that aim to better the country and its residents. In 2022, the ruler allocated a budget of AED 100 million to search for 1,000 Arab pioneers in different fields.
Born on July 15, 1949, Sheikh Mohammed first became the Head of Dubai Police and Public Security as his first public position and would go on to become the Crown Prince of Dubai in 1995. A known poet, Sheikh Mohammed often takes to his public channels to share his journey and his unique view on life through words. He once said, “[A poet] sees the earth, sea, and sky with a different eye. A poet is calm in nature and observant. This, I believe, is what makes a strong leader.”
