HH Sheikh Hamdan Honors “Unknown Soldiers” in Saudi Arabia

During the Holy Month, millions of people journey to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia to pray at the Grand Mosque. And this year, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum was among the worshippers. The Crown Prince of Dubai made his way to Makkah this week, to perform the pilgrimage of umrah.

The royal made the trip, which may be performed at any time throughout the year, in the company of a group of “unknown soldiers”, each of whom hail from various government entities in Dubai. The soldiers were selected to accompany HH Sheikh Hamdan to acknowledge their “hard work and commitment,” according to Dubai Media Office, which also shared several shots from the pilgrimage.

Umrah is one of two pilgrimages observed by those of the Islamic faith. It is not mandatory, while hajj, which occurs during the last month of the Islamic calendar, is expected to be made by all Muslims during their lifetime, physical and financial means allowing. During his visit to Makkah, HH Sheikh Hamdan “prayed to Allah Almighty to protect the UAE and all Arab and Islamic nations,” Dubai Media Office added.

The Crown Prince, who has 6.4 million Instagram followers, also shared a photo from his pilgrimage. His Highness has already ventured to the UK for the Epsom Derby, as well as Estonia for a spot of horse-riding and cycling, this summer. The royal, who favors high-intensity activities such as sky-diving, mountain hiking, and free-diving, often documents his travels on his social media accounts. Where will the rest of the season take him? We’ll be watching eagerly.
