Come May 19, Vogue Arabia will host its second WILL Summit, hosted in partnership with Mastercard. Unlike the inaugural WILL, which took place in person, the 2022 edition will be a virtual affair, giving audiences across the globe a chance to join the movement that focuses on women’s empowerment. Among the many noteworthy conversations that will be taking place during the event—expect some deep discourses on the role women play in businesses, sports, and in the betterment of the environment—is Vogue Arabia’s editor-in-chief Manuel Arnaut’s talk with Her Excellency Hend Al Otaiba.
Having recently been appointed as the UAE’s ambassador to France, Her Excellency will join Arnaut for a must-watch session where the duo will take a deep dive into her new role. Al Otaiba will share how she prepped for the new journey, and share insights on how the Embassy in Paris is working towards increasing opportunities for the Emirati youth. Most recently, the UAE Embassy in Paris launched Majlon, a new series of events that bring French and UAE stakeholders together to discuss issues of mutual interest, and also featured an all-female panel.
No conversation on the future of society is complete without touching upon the power of women, and the 2022 WILL Summit aims to spotlight issues related to gender equality through each session. During their time together, Manuel Arnaut and HE Hend Al Otaiba will also talk about female representation in diplomacy work, and specifically, the representation of Arab women. “Women empowerment has always been a key issue for me,” Al Otaiba told Vogue Arabia back in December 2021. “Our region is often misunderstood and that’s why one of the main issues I want to take on here is to highlight the way we are seen as oppressed women, suppressed, and without a say or a role to play in society.” For more on this power-packed conversation, make sure to check out the WILL Summit this month.
