While we never really got our Hogwarts acceptance letter – despite secretly feeling like an owl might arrive at our window any minute – it may be time to head back to the wizarding world and revisit our love for ‘the boy who lived’.

Bloomberg has reported that HBO is closing in on a deal to reboot the story but this time it will not be on the silver screen. The rumored reboot will be a seven-part series with each season focusing on one of the novels. The decision to turn J.K. Rowling’s pop culture-defining series into a TV series means that fans will have more to look forward to – longer timeframes mean that this potential new show would be exploring the world of Harry Potter in a lot more depth than the films ever could.

While nothing has been confirmed by the parties involved, Deadline has reported that Warner Bros Discovery – HBO’s parent company – is in talks with the author herself and may have her joining as a producer. This deal would be a crucial step in making any Harry Potter media a reality as Rowling has full creative control over any exploration of her work.

This is not the first Warner Bros has made an effort to expand the Harry Potter franchise. After the blockbuster success of the film series with the last installment coming out in two parts the company was eager to do more. A spin-off series, theme parks, and a stage play adaptation are only some of the ways in which fans can access Rowling’s magical world. More recently, a much anticipated role-playing game called Hogwarts Legacy was released in February.
