As awards season fast approaches, the buzz surrounding who will be nominated for the Golden Globes 2019 and the details of the eagerly-awaited ceremony has hit fever pitch.

The Golden Globes 2018 set a new tone, as the industry responded to the Harvey Weinstein scandal that erupted in the media last year. From actresses such as Meryl Streep and Angelina Jolie arriving in all-black gowns – a symbol of solidarity and allegiance to the Time’s Up movement, Natalie Portman sharply addressing what was an all-male list of candidates for the Best Director award, and later, Oprah Winfrey receiving a standing ovation following a powerful speech on gender inequality and the future for the young female generation, the atmosphere of the evening was distinctly unique to all other Golden Globes Awards that had preceded it since its initial running in 1944.

Elsewhere throughout the evening, Frances McDormand won the award for Best Actress followed by a statement on the “tectonic movement in our industry’s power structure” later adding: “The women in this room tonight are not here for the food. We are here for the work,” and Sterling K. Brown became the first black actor to win Best Actor in a Television Series in the drama category for his role in This Is Us.
