Supermodel Gigi Hadid and singer Zayn Malik were recently seen flaunting matching evil eye bracelets given to them by Lebanese jeweler George Khalife which he shared on his Instagram in a photo on Sunday. The post was a picture of the two holding hands and wearing the bracelets.

In a nod to their Middle Eastern heritage, the bracelets were supposedly gifted to them days after the news of Hadid being pregnant was leaked to the media, followed by a confirmation by her mother Yolanda Hadid – which made the news official. After which, Hadid went on record on a video call with TV show host Jimmy Fallon, confirming that she and Malik were in fact, expecting their first child together — after weeks of speculation. Speaking about her pregnancy to Jimmy Fallon via the call, Hadid admitted, “Obviously, we wished we could have announced it on our own terms but we’re very excited and happy and grateful for everyone’s well wishes and support. Especially during this time, it’s a nice silver lining to be able to be home and be together and really experience it day by day.” On the call, Hadid also gave an insight into her pregnancy cravings claiming that she has been eating an “everything bagel a day.”

Hadid is of Palestinian and Dutch descent, while Malik has an English and Pakistani heritage. The evil eye is culturally believed to be a talisman that can ward off negativity and bad misfortune. The bracelets are made of 14 karat gold and diamonds, and retail on Khalife’s website for USD 274.99 (AED 1,010). The evil eye symbol has been used for centuries as a way to ward off negativity and evil and has somehow never gone out of style.
