Gigi Hadid has opened up about what it has been like co-parenting her daughter Khai with her former partner Zayn Malik, in a recent interview with The Times.
The celebrity couple had an on-and-off relationship for almost five years before splitting up in 2021. When asked for advice on how to navigate a relationship that can be challenging for many, Hadid replied, “Just keeping the importance of the child’s happiness at the forefront.” The important thing to remember according to the model is that “you have a long life alongside this person.”
“That she can be with both parents makes me very happy,” she said while talking about how she tries to schedule her work appointments around the time when Khai is with Malik. The two-year-old seems to have inherited some signature British traits from her father who grew up in Bradford. “She’s clearly a child who was grown in my stomach eating a lot of British food — breakfast, beans, curries. And she still eats like that. She even says some words with a little [English] accent, which I love,” Hadid mentioned during her interview.
Becoming a mother at 25 seems to have provided a stabilizing force in Hadid’s life, “I’ve always been quite organized, so having Khai at the time that I did was a blessing. I’m so glad to be a young mum.” Ever since becoming a mother, the model has been prioritizing stability over the more nomadic lifestyle that modeling brings. With projects such as her appearance on Next in Fashion along with the launch of Guest in Residence – her luxury cashmere brand – Hadid is adamant about building a more rooted life for both herself and her daughter.
