Vogue Arabia’s debut cover star Gigi Hadid has spoken out against Islamophobic hate speech stated by a blogger and right-wing activist Laura Loomer via Twitter. After the terror attack that took place in New York on Tuesday writer Laura Loomer photographed two women wearing hijabs walking past the scene of the incident and alleged that the women were smirking. “Muslims are out in full force at the scene of the NYC #ISIS attack today rubbing it in everyone’s face. Aimlessly walking around in hijabs”, Loomer captioned in her Tweet. She continued, “You’d think they’d have the decency to not walk around in hijabs @ cross street of the attack. But they don’t. I bet they’re loving this.” Supermodel Hadid soon responded via her @gigihadid Twitter account that has over 7.1 million followers, calling out her offensive assumptions quite plainly…

The American-Palestinian model stated in a caption on Twitter, “‘Laura, I hate to give you attention, but I need to tell you – You’re a f***ing moron.” The model replied to @lauraloomer’s Tweet.

Naturally, comments came flurrying in with Hadid’s fans hailing her tweet as her ‘best yet’ and calling her an idol for using her platform to speak up about such issues. On Loomer’s own feed one follower aptly sent a photo of a Photoshopped pack of Doritos renamed ‘Deletos.’ Many of Loomer’s own followers have responded negatively to her sequence of Tweets on this subject.

To continue the verbal back and forth, Loomer later Tweeted that many a “verified liberal in Hollywood” had been messaging her, linking supportively to Hadid’s response.

Hadid then responded: “alas.. your RT [retweet] only proves your classless desperation to spread hate for attention.” Loomer continued in a Tweet at 9.25pm NY-time that she stood by what she had said and boasted that she was trending on Twitter. @LauraLoomer: “The left is so triggered by my spicy hot takes on #ISIS and #Islam, they actually let a conservative alt-media journalist trend on twitter!”

Gigi’s father, Palestinian Mohamed Hadid retweeted to his feed (and 137K followers) @YousefMunayyer’s comment, “You tell her Gigi!” Scroll a little further down and the proud father had previously retweeted a post of his three children on respective covers of Vogue Arabia and Vogue Man Arabia.

The Hadids are increasingly speaking up about politics and social issues before them. In February 2017, both Bella and Gigi Hadid took part in the #NoBanNoWall protest.
