Adding to the conversation of protecting minors in media, Gigi Hadid has a message concerning her own daughter. Taking to social media, the Palestinian-American model requested fans and the paparazzi to blur Khai’s face in photographs taken of her in public. Hadid mentioned that she wants her daughter to see the world “without the stress of the media circus” that comes with parents who are public figures, referring to her partner, British-Pakistani singer Zayn Malik.
The model wrote, “[As] our baby grows up we have to realize that we can’t protect her from everything the way we wanted to and could when she was smaller.”
“On our most recent trip to New York, she has started to want her sun shade lifted up (something she is used to at home) and helps herself to it! She doesn’t understand why she’s covered in the city or what I’ve wanted to protect her from,” 26-year-old Hadid highlighted.

She further stated that the laws for this change from state to state in the United States, but, from asking around, she believes that it comes down to the integrity of the photographer, publications, or fans that share the images. “Our wish is that she can choose how to share herself with the world when she comes of age, and that she can live as normal of a childhood as possible, without worrying about a public image that she has not chosen,” Hadid wrote.
She emphasized that she wants the best for her child as all parents do, adding that she hopes that this continues the conversation of protecting minors and their privacy in media.
Hadid and Malik have actively avoided showing their baby’s face on social media and in public spaces since her birth in September 2020. Although both parents have not shared pictures of Khai, Malik has shared a few details of what their daughter is like and his own adjustment to fatherhood after her birth.
