Cast your mind back to last summer, when Gigi Hadid celebrated her 25th birthday with an everything-bagel cake so good it brought the model to tears. The mastermind behind the frosting-covered creation? One Buddy Valastro, star of America’s reality TV hit Cake Boss, which chronicles operations at his family-run bakery Carlo’s in Hoboken, New Jersey. (In case you had any lingering doubts about the extent of Hadid’s Cake Boss fandom, she also commissioned Valastro to make a cake for partner Zayn Malik’s 28th birthday in January in the shape of a Bradford Football Club jersey.)

Now it seems that she’s taken her adoration to the next level, spending a day interning at Valastro’s Hoboken hotspot. “Best. Day. Ever,” the mother of one wrote alongside an Instagram carousel featuring icing piping bags and a grinning selfie with the Cake Boss. “Somethin’ coming soon from Cake Boss Buddy Valastro and his biggest fan/newest Carlos Bakery intern. Thank you to the whole famiglia for the warmest welcome. Big, big love.” Valastro’s verdict on Hadid moonlighting as a pastry chef? “You may know Gigi Hadid as a world-famous supermodel, but she’s also the sweetest person ever and one amazing cake decorator, too!”
While neither the girl boss nor the Cake Boss offered up further details about their collab, expect it to be spectacularly wholesome – not to mention stylish. In lieu of traditional chef’s whites, Hadid started her day at the bakery in a paint-splattered Gallery Dept shirt, a Black-owned, LA-based brand devoted to reimagining vintage pieces with an artistic touch. Specifically, Hadid wears an asymmetrical patchwork shirt from founder Josué Thomas’s menswear collaboration with Lanvin for spring/summer 2021, with Thomas’s signature label visible on the arm: “Art on display, courtesy of Josué Thomas.” Might we suggest for Buddy?
